Founded in May 23, 1898, The Walpole Historical Society today is located at 33 West Street in Walpole MA, opposite historic Walpole Common, in the historic Deacon Willard Lewis House.

Our Mission

The Walpole Historical Society and its museum preserve and perpetuate the history of Walpole, Massachusetts, through extensive collections, research and education, providing a welcoming place to foster community engagement, share knowledge and encourage historical connection.

About Us

The Walpole Historical Society serves as an important resource and center for preservation and learning, offering the following services and programs:

  • Our Museum, the 1826 Deacon Willard Lewis House, displays our collections of historic objects, curiosities and other artifacts illustrating Walpole’s cultural heritage. 
  • Our Research Library maintains documents, records, photographs and memoirs, helping visitors discover and interpret Walpole’s unique history and stories.
  • Our Museum Shop carries a broad selection of books, pamphlets and artwork.
  • Our Educational Programming features guided museum and walking tours, videos, exhibits, lectures, reenactments and other events for people of all ages.
